It is time Channel 7 lost the rights to Rugby Union coverage. The final Bledisloe Cup game is played in Hong Kong today at 3:30PM Perth time, but despite having 3 different stations, Channel 7 choose to show the game at 1:25AM on Sunday morning, 10 hours after it was played. I understand that Melbourne and Adelaide have the same issue. Now I know that these cities are not the bastions of Rugby that Brisbane, Sydney, Darwin and Hobart are. Yes, they all have the game live! But you would think with three channels worth of programming to fill they could find space for an International game of one of this countries favourite sports, featuring Australia and their biggest rivals.
The AFL season is over and there are no comparable sports on other channels in the time slot that I can see. So why would they delay the airing of the game? I can only assume they have something against Rugby fans in Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide. Or is it something darker afoot and they have some tie in with the pay TV broadcasters in order to boost sales? Seems more likely don’t you think?
While on the subject of Channel 7 isn’t it time they fixed up their online Yahoo TV Guide. It is the most unreliable piece of web software I have come across. You often can not view all of the time slots and if it is after midnight in the Eastern States it is impossible to see what is showing right now in Perth.
OK rant over. Time to settle to watch the game. If you are in Perth Melbourne or Adelaide on Foxtel or a PC screen near you.
