City Homicide is it all over ?

Filed under : Drama, TV, Thriller

The recent long running saga on City Homicide almost all got resolved last week. We found out that the Cricketer falsely jailed for killing his wife, went on a killing spree, once he was sprung. But I don’t think he could have killed the journalist played by Claire van der Boom, as I am pretty sure he was still in jail then. We also did not find out who the deep throat was, who was leaking information to her and then Rhys (Ryan O’Kane) . The show ended with the Attorney General telling Commander Waverley that Homicide was to be shut down. So all was signaling the end of the series. I investigated further and found the report below on TV Fix

The Seven Network hasn’t axed its cop drama City Homicide — but it hasn’t renewed it, either.
In 2011 the series will return to the airwaves as a six-part miniseries titled City Homicide: No Greater Honour, abandoning the 20-or-more-episodes-a-year format it’s had since its premiere in 2007.
Seven’s programming boss Tim Worner blamed City Homicide’s fate on the slew of digital channels that have popped up on free-to-air TV in recent years. “”In days of old, its renewal would have been a no-brainer,” he said in a statement. “But in this multi-channel environment, such decisions aren’t as clear-cut as they once were.”

This is a great pity as you would hope that more TV channels in Australia would mean more local programmes, not less. It is really what should be a happening. Although I appreciate the choice that all of these additional channels give us, endless repeats of imported shows is really not what we should be aiming for. Once again the mighty dollar rules.
